Australian and New Zealand Redemptorists, for more than 100 years, have given a priority to missions overseas. A significant proportion of our priests and brothers have spent all or most of their lives evangelising in countries other than their own. In nearly every case the missionaries learnt the local languages, allowing them to enter the most remote areas to live and work among the people, especially the rural poor.
Redemptorists first went to the Philippines in 1906, to Singapore, Malaysia and surrounding mission fields in 1935, and to Western Samoa in 1972.
