A Mission of the Redemptorists

A note from the Rector

Dear Friends of St Clements,

2018 is a year of special significance for the Redemptorist Congregation here at St Clement's, Galong.

St Clement’s began one hundred years ago. In 1917 the Redemptorists began building what was to become a residence for Redemptorist missioners as well as a secondary school (called a Juvenate) for potential candidates for the Redemptorist Congregation. This residence was officially blessed and opened in January 1918. Since then our Redemptorist Congregation has given great service to the people of the Southern Slopes, the Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn and beyond.

Hundreds of Redemptorists began their Religious life here at St Clement's either as young men in the Juvenate or in the Novitiate, which was later added to the complex of buildings. When both were closed here, St Clement's was transformed into a Retreat and Conference Centre - which is its role today.

All of us have many commitments and distractions in our daily life: business, family concerns, the internet, social media and sporting events. The list goes on. A place of peace and rest is good for the body, the mind and the soul. We would like you to look seriously at your own needs and take what opportunity you may have to come to us for a time of peaceful reflection and a strengthening of your spiritual life. St Clement’s has many surprises: good accommodation, a suitable conference room, chapels, a well-regarded dining room, a hermitage, a labyrinth, a Grotto, a museum, beautiful grounds, a Castle - and more besides!

Our programme of retreats each year is available in hard copy and on our website.

God bless.

Fr Dom Carrigan CSsR.
