Ordination to the Diaconate

With praise and gratitude to God, Brothers Son Nguyen CSsR and Hieu Nguyen CSsR will be ordained deacons by Bishop Donald Sproxton at 5.00pm on Saturday, September 30, 2017, in the Redemptorist Monastery Church, 190 Vincent St, North Perth.

Br. Hieu Nguyen was born the middle child in his family and has two brothers and two sisters.

He started his Redemptorist formation in Hanoi and entered the Novitiate in 2006 making his first Profession in 2007. He went on then to study philosophy in the major seminary.

Hieu came to Melbounre in 2011 to continue his studies, and in June last year he made his final commitment to serve God as a Redemptorist.

Hieu says, “Throughout my journey in religious life, I have committed myself to the three vows: poverty, obedience and celibacy. I chose these three vows joyfully in response to God’s call. I realize that I have received many blessings from God as well as support from my confreres. I consider the Redemptorist community as my second family.”

- Bro Hieu Nguyen CSsR

Br. Son Nguyen grew up in the city of Vung Tau, one of the most beautiful coastal towns in South of Vietnam. He is the second youngest in a family of seven children. Son has been with the Redemptorists ever since he finished university in Vietnam.

With Brother Hieu he took his first vows in 2007 in Vietnam, and last year in North Perth he made his final commitment to serve God as a Redemptorist.

Son came to Australia in April, 2011. He says, “I found the transition to Australia a culture shock. The struggle with learning the language and adjusting to the lifestyle were big challenges. Fortunately, my family in Vietnam and my Redemptorist confreres in Australia have always support-ed me in my journey as a Missionary. I would like to thank my family and all the Redemptorists in Vietnam and Australia for their brotherly love and support. I want to live up to Jesus’ words: “the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve (Mk 10:45a).”
