Daily Angelus

The Angelus is a prayer. When praying it we recall that God has really entered into human experience. This traditional prayer of the Church arose in the early 14th century and was originally prayed around sunset. In later centuries it was prayed also at sunrise, and later again it was prayed at midday, in total three times per day.

The Angelus "despite the passing of centuries retains an unaltered value and an intact freshness." (Pope Paul VI, Marialtis Cultus, 1974)

Just once each day you may care to return here and pray the Angelus. The music is by Franz Biebl and performed here by the renowned Chanticleer.

Angelus Domini nuntiavit Mariae
Et concepit de Spiritu Sancto.

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum, benedicta tu in mulieribus et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Jesus

Ecce ancilla Domini
Fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum.
